The Review

Freddy Curci is better known for scoring major hits with two bands, both Sheriff & Alias, and as most know, those two songs were power ballads; but that's not to say that Curci is not a rocker. Having spent his career in two bands playing out excellent AOR/melodic rock (with the 'rock' factor overlooked due to the ballads) Freddy Curci and Co. return with Zion, sounding a lot like Main Attraction, Jeff Paris (who also penned a few cuts on here), and Newman. Anticipated highly as a return to what Alias could have gone on to do beyond their debut, especially being that rumors have circulated that it was going to be heavier. The record has almost every thing intact, the songwriting, the musicianship, and Curci's voice still stands up; only one problem, it wasn't all captured properly. ***

With the sound being very bass riddled and muddied at times, the power seems to be lost upon the production of record. But that's not to say it completely ruins the record. As far as stand out moments you have hook-laden tracks such as "All it takes is a Minute," the politically minded "The Sky is Falling," the hard rockin' "Dangerous," and the eased back "The Devil's Dance;" of course what Curci relevant album wouldn't be complete without the ballad, well you have it, how about "I'm Running Home," ***

Overall, Zion could have greatly benefited from cleaner production, like I mentioned, everything else was in place. I was anticipating better, but next time, Freddy, next time, I'm counting on you man; You can do it. ***
