Finally, Finally, these guys have
hit the mark with their latest effort, 'The Rising Anger.'
Now, that is not to say that these guys never were proficient,
they always have been, but that potential has been reached
with this record. Bringing the basics back to progressive
metal along with bands such as Stride, Vox Tempus, Avian,
and Balance of Power, to the era of 'Images and Words' and
'Rage for Order,' Katagory V melds the technical 'musician'
approach with AOR songwriting, complimented by dueling lead
guitar attack, and a syncopated, but yet sophisticated rhythmic
punch. ***
'The Rising Anger' conveys a highly
emotional stance with tracks such as the Fates Warning reminiscent
"Will You Remember," the sub-acoustic balladry with "Drained,"
and the mood driven "Fading In…" But it is not all shadowy
melodies, they do grind with tracks such as "Liberated Minds,"
provide choppy thrash riffage on "Hostile Takeover," as well
as playing the hell out of the angst riddled title track,
which makes for a record fitting to the metal starved ears.
***
Highly song oriented and produced
in a sonically slick manner, without the often-overzealous
dense sounding end result; probably due to the lack of (and
no need for) keyboard orchestration; 'The Rising Anger' marks
another chapter in the world of real progressive metal, and
Katagory V provides the melodic gusto to prove themselves
worthy as helping to preserve the integrity within
the world of technical heavy metal.
