Studio: Rhino/Warner
Genre: MusicConcert
Release:
7/11/06
Special Features: "Backstage footage; performances from the band's sound check
Review:

Before they went swimming with the fishes, Phish took one last stroll around the park—Keyspan Park at Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY to be exact. This DVD performance from 2004 features the band performing two complete sets from the series of shows they performed. The track listing is as follows:

Disc-1:

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing

Dinner and a Movie

Curtain With

Sample in a Jar

Moma Dance

Free

Nothing

Maze

Frankenstein

46 Days

[Disc 2]

Possum

Oh Kee Pa Ceremony]

Suzy Greenburg

Axilla I

2001

Birds of a Feather

Kung

Mike's Song

I Am Hydrogen

Weekapaug Groove

Divided Sky

The band is in top form throughout this set and playing to their obsessive fans clearly only fanned the flames. Although just about every song is strong but my personal favorite here is the cover of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" played at maximum volume and speed. "Weekapaugh" is another powerful song that is the next-to-last song on the second set. Although there are a few so-so songs and/or performances (that's based more on my personal preference of the band's material), this generous two disc set has more than its fair share of highlights. Fans would do well to pick this up.

Image & Sound:

Avoiding the scaly look of many concert videos this show looks sharp, crisp with nice color reproduction throughout. Some of the darker sequences are sometimes are a bit difficult to make out and some fine detail gets lost in these sequences as well but, on the whole, this DVD looks quite good. Audio sounds marvelous with plenty of detail, great dynamic range and clear separation for both the 5.1 and PCM stereo surround mixes. ---

Special Features:

We get footage of the band performing during the sound check that fans will be happy to have as well as behind-the-scenes (or should I say backstage?) footage of the Trey's just before going on stage as well. While there isn't a huge amount of special features this two disc set more than makes up for that with an exceptional series of performances by the band. Although most fans wouldn't call this the band's best concert video release it captures them at a pivotal time just as they were calling it quits.

Final Words:

A solid performance from the band this is one of the better looking concert DVD performances that Phish shot. Fans will be happy to have one that looks decent (it looks much better than the Vegas shows although I'd give that set the edge for the strength of the performance/material). Definitely worth picking up for fans.
