I have to hand it to Jim Peterik, he can still write
some of the most memorable songs, his knack for production
hasn't been lost on anything either. In has days beyond Survivor,
Peterik, along with co-vocalist Toby Hitchcock, have led the
way with their AOR/melodic rock mainstay Pride of Lions
with arena ready hooks, rock anthems, and pop catchiness galore
that is hard to match. ***
On The Roaring of Dreams they continue to portray
the musical prowess they always have, standing on the strengths
on Peterik's production & songwriting skills as well as Hitchcock's
amazing range, the record has every element an AOR record
needs, where it portrays inspiration (with the rock anthem
"Language of the Heart" & the gospel infuse "Heaven on Earth"),
emotion ("Let me Let you Go," "Tall Ships," & "Secret of the
Way"), balladry ("Turnaround" & the tile track), and straightforward
rock ("Book of Life") where all the bases are covered on the
record; I mean all songs have potential to be hits (well,
let's just say they are), and let us not forget that Peterik
was the man behind many top 40 hits, so he knows how grab
the listener, and he does just that. ***
Pride of Lions have a sound that represents their
own, but pertains to the mold of Toto, Jeff Paris, Night Ranger,
Last Autumn's Dream, and Jude Cole. In the end The Roaring
of Dreams starts 2007 off on a good note for the melodic
rock world; it's just one of those records that really grabs
at the heart of the listener, being phenomenal front to back.
