The Review

For those of you expecting "Forever Young" Part 2, you might be a little disappointed, but if you want to hear a more personal side to Danny Vaughn, 'Traveller' is an album that offers his most 'different' work to date. True, it does not ponder the lines of Tyketto, Waysted, or From the Inside, but provides a singer/songwriter stance ringing out tunes that tread the line between melodic rock and folk-tinged hard rock. **

Vocally, he holds up strong, singing like he did as if he were still fronting a metal band, backed with the near anthem style harmonies, so nevertheless, you do have that atmosphere there; along with the occasional crunched guitar of axemen Tony Marshall & Pat Heath. Tracks like "Miracle Days," "That's What She Says," "The Warrior's Way," and "Restless Blood" take the rock and roll stance for the record while the southern rock tinged "Badlands Rain," the acoustic "Better by Far," and the ballad "Think of Me in the Fall" offer up diversity within Vaughn's writing skills on the record. ***

'Traveller' reminds me of Royal Court of China crossed with the stuff that Bon Jovi has been doing lately. If you have ever traveled to Nashville and have tuned into the local 'Radio Lightning 100,' this would be an album that would fit in perfectly on that station. For one, Danny Vaughn did something else rather than to "super-produce" an AOR album, but more power to him, he was able to reinvent his sound, all the wile keeping this new record filled with melody, hooks, riffs, and the occasional crunch to provide the ear candy. ***
