Having made their claim to fame years again with their
association with Tim "Ripper" Owens at the helm fronting this
band, the return of Winters Band has become something of an
obsession among the metal community. But needless to say,
the absence of Owens (who is replaced by vocalist Alexander
Koch) does not make the band invoke a need for any type of
name change or something similar for that matter; besides
reissues, it seems that they had gone under the radar for
a while, with anticipation being the focal point of the latest
release. ***
Straightforward melodic thrash metal, in the style of
Death Angel, Agent Steel, and Helstar, this record burns a
thrust of churning metal riffage provided by core member/axeman
Lou St. Paul who helps propel the pounding rhythmic backdrop
through tracks like "Spark to Flame," "Burning Bridges," "Despise
the Lie," and the dark "The World" make for some of the heaviest
tracks on the record (and they are highly melodic as well,
I might mention), where there is a no bullshit approach anywhere,
being that there are no ballads, no soundscapes, no instrumental
wanking, it is just simply a record that was made to portray
a massive amount of power; and that it does. ***
One thing is for sure; 'Redivivus' does invoke a new
era for Winters Bane, with no need to wonder what the record
would have sounded like if… So nevertheless, it is heavy metal
within it's finest hour, loud as hell and malice as a motherfucker;
in other words it's nothing less than anything we would want
to bang our heads to.
